Fáilte! Welcome to KNOCKCONAN National School WEB SITE

Latest news updates:
Our updated Child Safeguarding and Risk Assessment Statements are on our School Policies page
School re-opens Monday 12th April - Important Reminders
PE: Children will need their PE gear on Mondays beginning Monday 12th April.

Reminders – Arrival and Dismissal Times
  1. School doors open at 8.50am. Children are not insured on the premises before that time.
  2. There should be no congregating of parents at the school gates at drop off or collection times. Drop off and go.  Collect and go. If you must get out of the car please wear a mask.
  3.  Collection at home-time is staggered–ie
  • Collection for all families with surnames beginning with letters A – M at 2.30pm (except MC’s)
  • Collection for families with surnames beginning with Mc - Z at 2.40pm.
There have been too many cars at 2.30pm so there is a small change here: we are asking that all families with a surname beginning with Mc collect their children at 2.40pm. This is to make the collections more equal. Children for collection at 2.40pm will stay in their classrooms until that time.
Thank you all for your cooperation on this.

 Important!
When a child returns to school after a break - for whatever reason and regardless of the length of time off school - you must complete a return to school form. These forms have been emailed to you all previously, they are also available on the school web site and they are available from the office. We sent one home with your child on the day of the holidays as well.

National No Homework Day
All the children will be happy to hear that An Taoiseach has designated Monday April 12th as National No Homework Day. Teachers have been informed.

Decontam
The school is being fully disinfected by Decontam before re-opening.

Finally – there are just 10 weeks until the end of term. Please keep to the guidelines. There is no Covid in the school unless someone brings it in.

If your child is unwell please keep them at home.

If you are asked to collect your child from school because they are displaying symptoms you must phone your GP and take his/her advice regarding the need for a test.

Your child should not return to school for 48 hours whether they are being tested or not and you must complete a return to school form.

March 27th School Newsletter and Important Reminders
Good News re PE: outside coaches are allowed again under strict conditions so Anne Mc Kenna will be back for PE on Mondays for the first three weeks of the next term. Children will need their PE gear on Mondays including the first day back after Easter ie Monday 12th April.

Reminders:
Please note that all Covid measures are still in place and the school can be inspected at any time on these by our new inspector.

The Dept of Education and the HSE have expressed concern over the level of activity outside schools and it has been noted that inter-household playdates are a significant issue. There is continuing transmission in the community through playdates and visiting other households. No school wants to be forced to close again but everyone must do their bit to ensure we can all stay open. Please take note.

Little Ripples Project
Another little bit of good news - the school has been successful in an application to CatchmentCare for a schools project on water quality. The children will be learning about rivers and streams and how important water quality is. This is a two year project with workshops and field trips and other activities. The senior classes in the school will be most involved. The funding for all of the work is over €19000. We owe a big thank you to Chris Mc Carney from the Blackwater Catchment Trust for helping with the application. He also helped with the fish in the classroom project with Mr Buckleys class a few years ago.

New Classrooms
Finally, the tender for a consultant for two new classrooms and a temporary prefab classroom has gone out. The board hopes to be in a position to award the tender after the Easter break.
Work has been ongoing on the water treatment plant over recent weeks and hopefully when complete this will finally allow us to proceed with building.

We wish everyone a happy and safe Easter break.
Proposed dates for the sacraments,
15th May Confirmation 11am Knockconan, 1pm Clara and Carrickroe
19th May First Penance 7pm Knockconan, 20th May 7pm Clara and Deravoy
29th May First Communion 11am Knockconan, 1pm Clara and Deravoy
All in Carrickroe Church. All subject to change and depending on Covid restrictions

Good News:
Mindfullness for all
As you probably know, the mental health of children being out of school has been a concern for many so we are happy to announce that we have been sponsored again for Mindfulnress classes for children from Mindfulkids.org with Julieanne Reel. We previously ran this course a few years ago when we received great feedback from parents and we are very grateful to Monaghan Mental Health Association (MMHA) for sponsoring it again to the tune of €600.
MMHA introduced mindfulness in primary schools across the north Monaghan area as it gives children the skills to cope with stress, anxiety or other issues – skills that they can retain for the rest of their lives.
The course has one session available per week (for 12 weeks) and is now available online so we are going to start it this week. Each teacher will provide it through their own Google Classroom. It is suitable for children aged 7 years and up.
We encourage parents to join children online for the sessions and learn the techniques and we hope you all enjoy it

PE lessons from the GAA:
Monaghan GAA and Monaghan Education Centre is providing the school with pre-recorded coaching videos for all classes.  These videos will be uploaded to Monaghan GAA YouTube channel. The videos & links will be shared every Monday
