Basketball Day

Basketball Day Report
On the 9/1/13 we had the best P.E. this term. We learned more of basketball than before, like how to really play, and with all the techniques and stuff. We learned how to shoot 100% perfect, chest pass, bounce pass and B.E.E.F. No it’s not the thing you eat for dinner, it’s more like… B is for balance, E is for eyes, the other E is for elbow, and F is for follow through.
Our coaches names were Caroline, Jim and Matt, they were from the U.S.A, but play basketball in Ireland. We did slam dunks, but I was too small to reach the hoop. We had a dribbling contest and the score was 2-1 to my team, I shot a few times during shooting practice and I got a perfect shot out of 1 of them.
We missed part of break time but it worth it. My friends and I made a card for Caroline to say thanks, everyone signed it, my other friends made cards for Jim and Matt. It was a great day, even though I got hit in the nose (oh well!) By Catherine
Basketball Day!!!
Today at school we got a big surprise! We thought it was just going to be a normal Wednesday basketball with Patricia and then LOADS of work with Ms.Brennan but boy were we wrong!!
As we were coming into the hall our eyes fell upon 3 HUGE people. They introduced themselves and told us that they would be having a basketball day with us and would be teaching us loads and loads of skills! There was one girl and two boys, their names were Jim, Matt and Caroline!! Jim was from Philadelphia, Caroline was from Boston and Matt was from Washington D.C. They were originally from America but moved to Belfast to go to University!! They came all the way from Belfast just to play with us??? WOW!
Initially they started to show us some skills, like shooting properly, throwing properly and dribbling. After that we went to get our lunch, after we were finished our lunch we went back down to play more Basketball! Finally Jim, Caroline and Matt told us that we were going to play a game! BINGO!!:) Matt was in my team and we won most of the games!! Unfortunately at that moment is was time to say goodbye. It was so sad, Aisling, Rachel, Ernesta and I gave them about a million and one hugs. Patricia said that if we are good we might be going up to Belfast to watch them all play!! Jim said we can only come up if we make a big banner and shout the loudest so we promised we would!! I loved having Matt, Caroline and Jim coming down to Monaghan just to be with us!! We are far better at basketball then before they came down!!
It was the best school day EVER!!! :) By: Aoibheann
Basketball Day 9/1/2013 by Rachel
Today three basketball players from America came to our school. Their names were Jim, Caroline and Matt. They all came from different parts of the U.S.A to study at Jordanstown University.
They taught us some moves for example; the dunk - this is when you shoot but jump and swing on the hoop, chest pass (I am not sure that is what you call it) - this is when you throw the ball from your chest (with your elbows sticking out and hands on the ball) to your partner, the ball has to be really fast and strong on its journey from each person. Finally one more I can think of chest bounce pass (this also I am not sure if it is the right name) - it is really the same but you bounce instead of throwing and you don’t need to put so much pressure in to it (you don’t need to put as much pressure so that it will not go over your teammates head).
They were a lot of fun and not cross (I like when they’re not cross it’s more fun and I enjoy it more) and I’m glad that none of the people in my classroom were bold either, because then we could keep going instead of wasting time.
The End
Basketball Day – a thank you letter
Hi, I really appreciate what you taught me. Now that will encourage me to play basketball more. I think you are a brilliant basketball player. The “beef” is cool to learn with. B stands for balance, E stands for eyes, E stand for elbow and F stands for follow through.
The skills are really cool - like the spinning on the finger and slam dunk. It’s a really fun exercise. You have inspired me to continue playing basketball in the future and in secondary school and so on. I’ve got a basketball hoop at the side of my house so I can play basketball whenever I want to. I might even start playing for a team and training. Maybe Trough might start a basketball team. This is all because you have inspired me a lot.
Thank you so much,
Your Pal,
Emma
Basketball Day
Matt, Jim and Caroline arrived to our school this morning. They were all professional basketball players. They taught us some basketball skills called “Lay ups”. The word BEEF stands for balance, eyes, elbow and follow through. They were all good fun to watch. After spending the day teaching us all about basketball, we gave them thank you cards that we made ourselves. I wish they could come back again.

Basketball Day
My story is about the Basketball coaching we had today. The names of the coaches were Matt, Caroline and Jim. At the start of the training we did shooting, dribbling and passing. Then we did five on three matches. The coaches weren’t always playing.
My group was making a card for Matt. I made the crest - it had an Elk with a basketball in its hand on it. Their coach came with the Olympic Torch and we all got a picture with it on the playground and in the hall. I had a lot of fun and I hope they can come again.
I learned the names of the skills. I learned that Matt just didn’t do basketball he also played baseball.
It was class and I would like to do it again.
The End.
