SSE (School Self Evaluation)
What is it?
School self evaluation is a process involving an internal review of the school by the Principal, Deputy Principal, and staff, in consultation with the Board of Management, parents and pupils. During the school year, we look at what we do and how we do it and try to find ways in which we can improve what we do, taking into account opinions of the people who are involved in the life of the school.
The SSE process began in 2015 with Literacy. This was followed by Numeracy the following year and then Gaeilge.
In each case the SSE process was followed by the development of a School Improvement Plan (SIP).
In 2019 an inspector visited to help us review what we were doing. Looking at the aims of the three SIPs and our new Digital Plan, a new overarching aim was developed -
SSE Review with DES Inspector Support June 2019

“That every child would be able to prepare and make a presentation on a particular theme or topic to his/her class or assembly as part of a group or individually with fluency and confidence for one minute by the end of the year (with or without the use of ICT)

- that the development of these skills be transferred from T1 to T2
- That the skills above would not be confined to literacy themes but would also be used for other subject areas such as Science, History, SPHE etc
- Children with most need will receive most support
